It is a bike for those who cannot afford the Duke 390 and due to its initial cost and greater running cost. The Duke 250 sits directly in the centre of Duke 200 and the Duke 390 and offer best of both worlds. It offers a reasonable fuel efficiency as well as performance that is far more than the Duke 200. It is great for highway rides for the power it holds and city commuting due to the control that this bike offers.

KTM Duke 250 is powered by a liquid-cooled and fuel injected, 248.8 cc, single cylinder engine with 4-valve DOHC head. This motor pumps out 29.6 bhp at 9000 rpm and 24 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm. The engine is connected to a 6-speed transmission which guarantees outstanding acceleration. 0-100 kmph sprint can be completed in around 9 seconds and the bike tops out at speedo-indicated top speed of around 142 kmph.

With 30 bhp power on board, the bike still manages to return a mileage of about 30 km per litre which is greater than the Duke 390’s 25 kmpl number. A 13.5 litre fuel tank will deliver a range of at least 400 km which is just fine for long highway rides.

KTM 250 Adventure

Yet another KTM bike for tall riders, the KTM 250 Adventure is a newly launched adventure bike with a 250cc engine and is targeted at affordable adventure biking audience. It is about Rs 50,000 more affordable than the 390 Adventure and offers lesser set of features. The saddle height of this bike is 855 mm which really requires a rider to be nearly 6 feet tall for proper bike management at slow speed and on uneven terrain.

KTM 250 Adventure

The engine on this one is similar to the one we just saw in the Duke 250. A 248.8cc, single cylinder, fuel injected, liquid-cooled engine powers the 250 Adventure, the state of tune is also similar to that of Duke and Husqvarna bikes. Maximum power is rated at 29.6 bhp at 9000 rpm and a torque of 24 Nm arrives at 7500 rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed transmission that comes with a taller 6th gear for making it easier to ride at 100 kmph all day long.

The cruising speed on the bike is in the range of 80 to 120 kmph, however, a slight vibration comes around 120 kmph making it difficult to ride for a long period of time. A visor on the front end will save you from those wind blasts at high speeds.

On the highways, the bike can deliver a mileage of about 40 kmpl which drops to less than 33 kmpl in the city riding. From a large 14.5 litre fuel tank, you can extract about 580 km on the highways that makes for a respectable range while on the long hauls.

KTM 250 Adventure

Feature-wise, the bike gets a new LCD instrument cluster which is better than what you see on the Duke 250 but not a TFT version which is present in the 390 series of bikes. There is speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, instantaneous fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, distance to empty and gear position indicator. However, the layout is pretty decent and is readable while on the run.

Unlike the KTM 390 Adventure, the bike does not get cornering ABS, traction control and quick shifter but comes with switchable ABS for off-roading. If you are touring guy, you can opt for the 250 Adventure at a price tag of Rs 2.48 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi.
