Off-road bikes are made to take on the uneven terrains and where road does not exist. These bikes are capable of riding on the trails, rocky paths, crossing shallow rivers, water streams and muddy trails. What makes off-road bikes so capable is the presence of specially crafted components.
These components include large front wheels up to 21 inches in diameter which do not clog even into large pit and helps rider to maintain balance during rides. The rims in the front and rear are packed with wire spokes which absorbs heavy impact that occurs during off-road rides while landing from heights.
Apart from the wheels and tyres, the off-road bikes are equipped with long travel suspension. Longer travel suspension absorbs impacts without bottoming and providing cushion to the whole bike and the rider while performing jumps and landing. The off-road bikes have ergonomics where rider can comfortably ride the bike while standing on the foot pegs and taking on the treacherous terrains.

Hero Xpulse 200 4V
Hero Xpulse 200 4V is a factory off-road bike in India and is also the most affordable at just Rs 1.36 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi. The 4-valve version of the Xpulse now generates more power and torque figures which ultimately deliver in the real-world performance. It gets a long windshield visor to protect you from high-speed windblast.
The Xpulse 200 4V gets a flat and long single piece seat which has enough room for the rider to move around while on the run. Also, the seat for the pillion also has ample space for the passenger for long distance touring. Hero has done a great job is sorting the ergonomics of the bike for the adventure lovers.
To tackle pits, rocks and the uneven terrain, the bike comes equipped with a large 21-inch front rim and 18-inch rear rim. The wheels are spoke units which are designed to absorb high impacts and get away with it. Had the bike equipped with alloy wheels, the usability and the risk of breakage would have increased exponentially on the off-road scenario.
The 199.6cc single cylinder, air and oil-cooled, engine helps in moving the bike. This motor now has programmed fuel injection system for fuelling and is compliant to BS6 emission norms. A maximum power of 18.8 bhp comes at 8500 rpm and peak twisting force is rated at 17.35 Nm peaking at 6500 rpm. There is a 5-speed gearbox which has short gears for higher torque output at the rear wheels.
Shorter gearing helps Xpulse 200 4V to tackle the off-road terrain with ease and always keeps the rider only a twist of the throttle away from instant torque in challenging situations. The foot pegs are right beneath the rider making it quite easier to ride the bike while standing up in terrain undulations.
Speaking about the mileage, the Hero Xpulse 200 is capable of returning a consistent fuel economy of over 35 kmpl on the highways and about 38 kmpl in the city. This is because of the presence of short gearing and on the highway; you will be riding the bike at around 80-100 kmph mark which is near to the bike’s top end. However, despite the low mileage, the 13-litre fuel tank capacity will easily provide you a range of about 480 km in a single tankful. The petrol price is high, so it is one of the best solutions for riders under a budget.
Coming on to the features department, the bike is blessed with a fully digital instrument panel with host of features including Bluetooth connectivity. You will get a speedometer, odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge and other tell-tale lights. Apart from this, the digital screen will display the notifications when you connect your smartphone with it. Honda CB 200X
Honda CB 200X is placed below the Hero Xpulse 200T just because of the fact that this urban explorer bike from Honda offers nothing substantially extra over what we get from a much cheaper Hero Xpulse 200T. The price at which Honda CB 200X is available is Rs 1,44,500 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi. With additional Rs 24,000 over the Xpulse 200T, the bike offers nothing good. It is just a beefed-up Hornet 2.0 with fairing and higher seat that is good only for short weekend getaways.
Honda CB 200X is built on the platform of the Honda Hornet 2.0 and uses all the components of the former machine such as engine, chassis, swing-arm, suspension and brake units and much more. Now moving on to the changes on the CB 200X. you get a raised handlebar for sitting completely upright. There is a half-fairing with taller visor which is designed to deflect high-speed wind-blast on the highway rides.
The ergonomics of the CB 200X is also perfect, thanks to the thicker seat with balanced foam for allowing the rider to stay on the saddle for long time. It gets a taller seat height of 810 mm which is good more most riders but some shorter riders might face problems with the higher saddle especially in the city traffic.
Honda CB 200X is destined as an Urban Explorer which make sit good for short to medium riders and not for ultra-long-distance rides. The main reason it that the CB200X comes with shorter gear ratios that sounds the engine screenful when ridden over 90 kmph. The top speed of the CB200X is around 115 to 120 kmph. Shorter gearing helps in the city rides but same doesn’t go well on the highways. Shorter gearing also increases the fuel consumption on the highways as the bike runs at greater cruising speeds.
The suspension system on the CB 200X is eye-catchy as it gets golden USD forks at the front but with similar wheel travel as you get on the regular Hornet 2.0. The rear monoshock unit is adjustable to pre-load setting. This suspicion is slightly on the stiffer side which robs the fun on the broken patches of roads but the high-speed stability and the cornering capacity of the bike is intact as you found on the Hornet.
The ground clearance stays at 167 mm which is sufficient for highway touring, but if you take the bike on off-road trails, the things might look different. The 200X gets dual-purpose tyres which are capable of offering grip on the roads as well as off-road surfaces. But without longer travel suspension and lack of higher ground clearance, the whole point just misses out.
Coming to the engine, the Honda motorcycle for urban touring is packed with a 184.4cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke, 2-valve SOHC engine that is fed by PGM-Fi fuel injection system. This simple old-school yet refined mill belts out 17 bhp of power at 8500 rpm and 16.1 Nm twisting force at 6000 rpm and is connected to a 5-speed gearbox via a wet multi-plate clutch.
The price at which this bike is available doesn’t go hand-in-hand with the kind of engine and performance it offers. Lower than this price tag, you can get yourself, the F250 Pulsar which is way more powerful and offers better features too.
With added fairing and other hicks and nicks, the weight of the bike is increased by 5 kilos and now the kerb weight stands at 147 kg. This is pretty light for a 180cc motorcycle and the power to weight ratio is on-par with competition. This makes it nimbler in the city streets while tackling the dense traffic. The riding posture and good wind-protection does make is a bike to take out on the highways, but there are other better and more value-for-money options are present in the Indian market.
In terms of features, the Honda CB200X gets a fully digital instrument cluster with gear position indicator, brightness adjustments and battery voltage auge. There is no trip computer and range indicator which is an eye-sore for a bike in this category. It gets a full LED headlight, tail-light, and turn indicators which is a welcome touch by Japanese bike maker. A pair of knuckle guards with integrated turn indicators further enhances the look and functionality of the bike.
