The reason is miniscule running cost when compared to eh petrol powered bikes and scooters. Also, the servicing and maintenance cost is near to nil because there is no moving part in electric bikes apart from the electric motor.

This list of best electric scooter is charted out with internal valuation of the performance, the design, popularity among the riders and the way the bike offers best to the riders. Let’s get started with the first electric scooter in this list.

Ola S1 Pro

The first and the foremost mention of any electric bike in India cannot go without Ola S1 Pro. Yes, this electric bike is on the pole position when it comes to choosing the best electric scooter for your daily riding needs. There are many reasons for it to be on the first place of this list such as price, performance, range, battery life and we will cover each one of them in this section.

Ola S1 Pro

First thing first, the price of Ola S1 Pro is Rs 1.39 lakh Pan India as there is no showroom of Ola Electric, all the scooters will directly be delivered to the customers’ address across the length and breadth of the country. Apart from this, many Indian states has nullified the RTO tax on electric vehicles and new states offer extra subsidy on the electric vehicles to lure more customers. After getting state subsidy of New Delhi, the price of Ola S1 Pro in New Delhi is around Rs 1.1 lakh.

Ola S1 Pro has the highest number of colour options in this list which is at twelve – Porcelain White, Khaki, Neo Mint, Coral Glam, Jet Black, Marshmallow, Liquid Silver, Millenial Pink, Anthracite Grey, Midnight Blue and Matt Black.

Coming to the reasons because of which this particular electric bike is on the pole position. The first being the design. Yes, everyone loves the way Ola S1 Pro looks like. It is an impressive looking electric scooter with smooth curves and simple body panels. There is a full LED headlight unit with LED DRLs for better illumination at night time. With its design language, the Ola S1 Pro looks completely different from other scooters in India and it is also one of its greatest points of selling.

Speaking about its powertrain, the S1 Pro is fitted with a powerful electric motor that provides a peak power of 8.5 kW which is equivalent to the Aprilia SR 160 sports scooter. The torque produced by the motor is phenomenal at 58 Nm at the motor shaft. This kind of power and torque numbers makes this electric scooter the fastest electric scooter in India. S1 Pro manages to hit 40 kmph in 3 seconds and 60 kmph comes up in just 5 seconds which is a great number considering its weight of 125 kg which is counted among the heaviest scooters in India. Speaking about the top speed, the Ola S1 Pro goes up to 115 kmph as per the company claims. With this, Ola S1 Pro becomes the fastest electric scooter on sale in India.

The battery is a 3.92 kWh lithium-ion module that supply power to the electric motor. The ARAI certified range of the S1 Pro is 181 km on a single fully charged battery pack. This range is achieved under ideal test conditions and therefore the real-world riding range should be around 130 to 140 km if ridden with a light wrist. There are three modes on the S1 Pro and the best fun-to-ride mode is Hyper mode which offers insane acceleration and highest top speed.

You can charge the S1 Pro’s battery by two ways – Home charging and Fast charging. At home it takes 6 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge the battery from a regular home socket. On the other hand, the Ola Hypercharge fast charging station can charge the S1 Pro to 50% in 18 minutes which is great for quick charging during emergency situation. At the hypercharge network, the charge rate is around 4 km per minute.

The running cost of the Ola S1 Pro turns out to be around 22 paise per kilometre if we consider the real-world range of around 120 km from the full battery. It takes around 4.5 units of electricity to charge the battery and the price of electric at Rs 6 per kWh is Rs 27. Even if the electricity cost is a bit more expensive, the running cost is around 25 paise per km which is just great when compared to any ICE scooter’s running cost due to high petrol price.

On the dashboard, you get to see a 7-inch touchscreen instrument console which is powered by octa-core processor for smooth experience. Ola Electric has created their own Move OS for the console and it controls the whole electronics of the scooter with just few taps of your finger. You get info on speedometer, odometer, trip meters, battery level indicator, estimate range left, weather, navigation, widgets and much more. This console also offers Bluetooth connectivity feature which allows the rider to connect with their smartphones and access to a new world of connected features on the S1 Pro. And this is what makes it an amazing electric scooter to ride.

Many segment-first features are present on the Ola S1 Pro such as proximity lock which locks and unlocks the scooter as you walk away and towards it respectively. This is a great feature to have in a country like India where you never know where your two-wheeler is gone after a short walk in the market. You get moods which can be set by the rider according to his/her mood. There is option for many widgets including the weather forecast and many more. The electronic cruise control makes riding easier during inter-city travels. Yes, intercity travels are possible with S1 Pro’s long range of over 120 km.

The suspension system is a completely new and unique unit on the Ola S1 Pro, there is mono telescopic suspension which is connected to the front wheel via a single-sided arm. At the rear, you get a horizontal shock absorber unit. According to the tests, the suspension is tuned towards a balanced side between the soft and hard setting making it a great scooter to ride on the city streets. It will absorb bumps without unsettling the rider and still have great stability on the straight-line performance.

The braking system is comprised of 220 mm front disc brake and 180 mm rear disc brake with combined braking system. It would be just great if the company had provided dual-channel ABS for ultra-safe braking performance.

Finally, the warranty on the S1 Pro is available for 3 years and 40,000 km on the whole vehicle along with the battery. As for a new product, the company should have offered a better warranty distance of around 50,000 km.

Simple One

The next scooter on this list is the Simple One. It is also a completely new scooter which is close second to the Ola S1 Pro because of its long riding range of around 236 km in a single charge especially under test conditions idealised by ARAI. It comes with a larger battery pack which is clearly more than the Ola S1 Pro and still we placed it on the second spot. The reason? Its overall appeal. When you look at Ola S1 Pro and then at Simple One, you find a lot of things missing on the electric scooter from Simple.

Simple One

This scooter is a new model which is designed and developed in India and it is also cheaper than the Ola S1 Pro with nearly similar level of performance. It is priced at Rs 1.1 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi and is Rs 20,000 cheaper than the Ola S1 Pro. Despite a competitive price tag, the battery pack on the Simple One is largest in India as of now. There are four colours to choose from – Brazen Black, Grace White, Namma Red and Azure Blue.

The Simple One Electric scooter comes with a sharp design which is completely different from what Ola is offering. Its sharp edges and pointy design will be loved by many the millennials and generation Z, the latest and tech-smart among us. The scooter rides of stylish 12-inch wheels wrapped with wide tyres for greater grip on the road surface.

Starting with the powertrain, the Simple One gets its motive power from the frame mounted DC motor puts out 4.5 kW of continuous power and 8.5 kW of peak power. With this kind of power, it will be easy to accelerate and overtake in the city traffic like a breeze. The twisting force developed by the motor is 72 Nm available at the motor shaft, the overall torque on the rear wheel will be much higher thanks to the reduction provided by chain drive unit.

In terms of performance, the Simple One scooter sprint from 0 to 40 kmph in 2.95 seconds and might reaches 60 kmph in around 5.5 seconds. The top speed of the Simple One depends on the wheel size selected by the buyers. It is 105 kmph with 12-inch tyres onboard, whereas the top speed is just 98 kmph 10-inch wheels.

The battery capacity on the Simple One scooter is pegged at 4.8 kWh which is highest available on any scooter as of now. This battery pack is divided into two parts – one part if fixed in the scooter while another one is available to be removed from the scooter. The fixed part of the battery holds 3.2 kWh capacity while the removable battery module has 1.6 kWh battery charge. There is an option to increase the battery capacity to 6.4 kWh and get real-world range of over 200 km.

Simple One can go up to 236 km in a single charge under ideal conditions and up to 203 km in the Eco mode. The actual real-world riding range is expected to be around 140 to 150 km with light throttle. You can charge the battery either at home or at public fast charging stations to quickly recharge the battery for immediate use.

When compared to the Ola, the Simple One electric scooter tip the scale at just 110 kg which is whole 15 kg lighter than the Ola S1 Pro. It is yet not known the real reason for such an impressive engineering. It is comparable to the Ather 450X whose all-aluminium frame brings the weight to just 108 kg. The saddle height of the Simple One is 775 mm which is good for all kinds of riders.

Just as we saw on the Ola S1 Pro, the Simple One comes loaded with a 7-inch touchscreen TFT console with every information that you would require on the scooter. You get features like tyre pressure monitoring, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity full map-based GPS navigation and much more. The riders can customise the console as per their requirements which is a big plus point for the Simple One.

With Eco, Street, Sport and Sonic, there are four ride modes as well which allows the rider to use the scooter according to their needs and requirements. Eco mode is here to provide highest range in a single charge, the street mode provides more performance with ideal range that can be used for daily city commuting. After this comes the sports mode which will offer performance and the range will be compromised. The Sonic mode has been given only for fun and you will get maximum performance with shortest range.

On the suspension front, the Simple One is fitted with regular telescopic forks on the front wheel and centre mounted monoshock unit is available on the swing-arm for stable ride and confidence-inspiring handling characteristics. We expect the suspension to be well-calibrated for city usage with the ability to tackle the bad roads easily and also provide good straight-line stability.

To stop the Simple One, the company has used a 200 mm front and 190 mm rear disc brake for adequate braking performance. It also gets a patented combined braking system for safer and controlled braking performance.

Ather 450X

The second position is held by Ather 450X. The 450X is the most expensive and premium electric scooter from the house of Ather and it features all the latest technology and advanced features.

Ather 450X

At present, the Ather 450X carries a price tag of Rs 1.55 lakh ex-showroom and it competes with the Ola S1 Pro with all its technology and powertrain. The Ather 450 was the first electric scooter from the house of Ather and it was the ahead of its time when it was launched a couple of years ago. Speaking about its looks, the Ather 450X is a futuristic electric scooter with aluminium frame and smooth fibre part body.

Similar to the Ola and Simple, the Ather 450X also comes fitted with a frame mounted permanent magnet motor. This motor delivers 3.3 kW of continuous power and 6.2 kW of peak power along with peak torque of 26 Nm at the shaft. The torque is multiplied by dual reduction system that offers strong acceleration of 0 to 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 80 kmph which is ideal for city usage.

The battery on the new Ather 450X is a 3.24 kWh lithium-ion unit which is slightly larger than the previous generation 450X. With ARAI certified range of 146 km per charge, the Ather 450X falls short of Ola S1 Pro’s 181 km range. The company says that the real-world riding range of the 450X is 105 km in the Eco mode, 85 km in the normal mode and around 75 km in the sport mode. These numbers are real and anyone can be confident at these numbers while riding the scooter in the city limits.

Coming to the charging, the 450X supports fast charging at a rate of 1.5 km per minute. Fast charging fills 80% in just 60 minutes. Home charging fills the battery in 3 hours and 30 minutes up to 80% charge.

Just like the Ola and Simple, the 450X also comes installed with a 7-inch TFT touchscreen display with full-fledged connectivity features. White, Mint Green and Space Grey are the three colour options which makes it an interesting pick.

It is suspended on telescopic forks at the front and a centre-mounted monoshock unit at the rear. This setup is tuned towards a stiffer side for sporty riding but it is not great for riding on the broken patches of roads. The braking setup is handled by a 200 mm front disc brake and a 190 mm rear disc brake. You also get regeneration while braking or coasting and helps in improving the range within the city limits. For better safety of the ride, the company has added combined braking system for shorter braking distance and better stability.

Ather Energy is offering the 450X with a 3-year warranty on the whole scooter, 3-year warranty on the lithium-ion battery pack and a 3-year warranty on the home charge that is being supplied with the scooter. This ensures peace of mind among the buyers.

Many Indian states have waved the RTO tax of electric scooters which is a great way to kick start sales of electric scooters in India. However, there is no waiver on the scooter insurance as it is a must for all new two-wheelers. One can save on insurance and RTO tax by buying second hand scooter or bike.

Bajaj Chetak Electric

The fifth place is taken up by the Bajaj Chetak Electric. It is the only electric scooter from the house of Bajaj and it is a great machine to look at. From every angle, the Chetak Electric feels premium and it is also one as per the company claims. The Chetak is a brand name which is synonymous with premium feel and old-world charm.

Bajaj Chetak Electric

Bajaj Chetak is here to counter the indigenous electric scooter from the stable of Ola, Ather, TVS and Simple. However, the company has taken a different approach altogether with the Chetak Electric as it is an electric vehicle that comes with all modern bit but not fast charging technology. Urbane and Premium are two variants of Bajaj Chetak and they get different choice of colours – Citrus Rush, Cyber White, Brooklyn Black, Hazelnut, Indigo Metallic and Velluto Russo.

At present, the Bajaj is retailing the Chetak Electric with a price tag of Rs 1.40 lakh without the FAME 2 subsidy. Accurate mentioning of subsidy is not available on the company website but you can calculate the subsidy by looking at the battery capacity of the scooter. There is a 3-kWh battery capacity which when multiplied by Rs 15,000 per kWh of subsidy, the total amount turns out to be Rs 45,000. But the subsidy is capped at 40% of the scooter’s ex-factory price. Hence, the total subsidy you can expect on the Bajaj Chetak is around 35,000 to 38,000. Hence, the effective price of the Chetak Electric will be around Rs 1.1 lakh.

All the lighting system on the Bajaj Chetak is made of LED units be it headlight, tail-light or the turn-indicators. The turn indicators on the rear are progressive one which are usually available only in premium machines. Everything on the Chetak is premium thanks to the positioning of the scooter and the material used to manufacture it.

The DC motor on the Chetak is positioned on the swingarm which reduces the mass on the wheels and offers better ride quality. This motor is capable of making 4 kW of max power and 16 Nm twisting force on the motor shaft. It is more the enough for smooth and strong acceleration of the Chetak on the city roads. The top speed is rated at 70 kmph. There are no official numbers of acceleration as of now and we might get it in the future as official acceleration numbers come along.

Coming to the battery pack, there is a sizeable 3-kWh lithium-ion battery module which is not removable and does not support fast charging facility. The company claims a range of 90 km from a single charge in the ideal test conditions which reduces to around 75 km in the sport mode. The city mode can provide a range of over 80 km on the Chetak. This range is enough for three to four days of city commuting.

On the charging front, the battery on the Chetak charges to 25% in 1 hour that will give a range of around 20 km. To fully juice up the battery, you need to keep it plug in for about 5 hours.

Bajaj is selling the Chetak with an impressive warranty of 7 years or 70,000 km which is best in electric bike segment. One can have complete peace of mind with the Chetak electric for up to 7 years and beyond.

The dashboard is equipped with a round-shaped fully digital instrument panel providing an array of info. There is Bluetooth connectivity as well for extra connected features. You get 3 riding modes – Eco, City and Sport leading to performance and range depending up the mode and behaviour of the rider.

A single sided leading link suspension is present on the front wheel whereas a shock absorber with hydraulic damper manages the suspension at the rear. This setup is tuned to deliver comfortable ride in the city roads and with larger 12-inch wheels at front and the rear promising improved stability bad patches of roads.

In the braking department, the Chetak gets a disc brake up front and rear drum brake accompanied by a combined braking system ensuring better safety and shorter braking distance during emergency situations.

TVS iQube

Let’s move to the TVS iQube which is one of the most practical electric scooters on this list. Recently the company launched the new iQube. It is now available in three variants in total providing different features at different price range for different kinds of riders. iQube, iQube S and iQube ST are the three variants out of which first two are launched and top variant is still some time away from availability.

The price of base variant of this new electric scooter is Rs 1 lakh on-road Delhi including all the subsidies. iQube S comes at Rs 1.10 lakh while the company hasn’t revealed the price of iQube ST yet. We expect the price of iQube ST will be priced Rs 1.4 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.

TVS iQube

TVS iQube offers a sober yet modern design with the headlight positioned on the front apron and the handlebar cowl has a dark tinted visor with LED DRLs for sportier look. Rest of the lighting is made of LED units for premium appeal. It is a practical scooter with spacious foot-board and wide and long seat with proper padding and ergonomics. There are many colours to choose from in all the three variants – Titanium Grey, Mercury Grey, Copper Bronze, Mint Blue, Lucid Yellow, Racing Red and Pearl White.

Unlike other electric scooter which gets the frame mounted motors, the TVS iQube comes fitted with hub-mounted 4.4 kW BLDC motor on the rear axle. This way, the extra moving parts can be removed for a more efficient system but with heavier rear wheel, the ride quality take a hit especially on the bad sections of road. This motor has enough grunt to push the iQube to a top speed of 78 kmph with 0 to 60 kmph coming up in just 8.6 seconds. Top variant of iQube, i.e., iQube ST has a marginally higher top speed of 82 kmph. These numbers make it quicker as some other 125cc scooters but the top speed is in the range of most 110cc scooters which is not bad either considering the fact that this scooter is made to run only in the city limits.

The battery pack on the new TVS iQube is a 3.75 kWh battery pack placed under the footboard and also under the seat. Under-footboard battery keeps the centre of gravity a lot lower providing great stability to the scooter. iQube and iQube S provides real-world range of 100 km per charge while the iQube ST with its larger 4.5 kWh battery will provide 145 km of real-world range.

This kind of high range from a practical electric scooter is more than sufficient to make it a best seller which will happen in the coming times. A regular office goer uses any two-wheeler for about 30 to 50 km per day and iQube ST will ensure that one can use the electric scooter for 2 days without worrying about the charge.

A total of three different chargers are available for all three variants of the scooter. The Base has option for 650 Watt and 950 watt charger and same is with the S variant. It is the ST variant that is offered with 1.5 kW fast charger.

On the instrumentation front, the iQube is fitted with a 5-inch colourful TFT panel; iQube gets a larger 7-inch panel while the iQube ST comes with touch-screen functionality. The cluster offers a range of info to the rider. There is distance to empty feature as well. The Bluetooth connectivity feature providing a plethora of connected features and most of them are available only on a subscription basis. The meter has the potential of receiving OTA updates for bringing more new features.

The suspension system is comprised of telescopic forks on the front wheel and a shock absorber at the rear. This setup is expected to be tuned towards a well-balanced side that promises a great ride quality on the city roads. There are 12-inch alloy wheels offering even better comfort level.

Finally, the braking department is taken care of by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake on the rear wheel with combined braking system with the name SBT for better braking performance.

Okinawa iPraise

Coming to the flagship scooter from the stable of Okinawa, the iPraise is the most feature rich, practical and stylish scooter that can be used for daily commuting by anyone in the country. The design is praise worthy, comes with a large battery pack, Bluetooth connectivity and various connected features. It is offered in three colours – Glossy Red Black, Glossy Silver Black and Glossy Golden Black.

Okinawa iPraise

For a good performance, the iPraise gets a 2.5 kW BLDC motor which is mounted at the hub. The electric power to the motor is supplied by a 3.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that ensures a range of nearly 140 km in a single charge. The weight of the iPraise is 111 kg which is decent for a long-range scooter.

This battery can be fully charged from zero is around 4 to 5 hours from the regular home socket. There is an auto-cut feature that keeps battery safe from overcharging and increases the battery life. It is a detachable battery solution and you can take the battery to home or office to charge them at your comfort.

The dashboard greets with a completely digital instrument console that offers an array of information to the rider. This meter console is Bluetooth enabled and can be connected with your smartphone via Okinawa’s official mobile app. You can access to geo fencing, find my scooter and many other features from the mobile app.

Coming to the suspension system, there are telescopic forks at the front with rear shock absorber taking up all the bumps at the rear. This suspension setup is optimised for city performance and also tackles bad patches of roads with ease and comfort.

For stopping the scooter, the company has provided disc brakes at both ends and comes with a feature called electronically assisting braking system that keeps the stability of the scooter under hard braking.

Benling Aura

Next spot is held by the Benling Aura. It is a fine electric scooter and is available at a mouth-watering price tag. With an asking price of just Rs 91,646 ex-showroom including the government subsidy, the Aura from Benling is an amazing and value for money electric scooter for the masses. It is especially made for those who are tight on budget and still want to have an electric scooter for daily rides.

Benling Aura

Benling Aura is best electric scooter to have at home for daily commuting for those who do not want unnecessary electronics and tech wizardry. However, despite the lower price and better value for what it offers, the Benling Aura is down towards the ends of the list. This is because Benling is a Chinese company and reliability of the same cannot be comprehend as of now. All the parts of the Benling Aura are imported from the China and assembled here in Benling’s Indian manufacturing facility.

Starting with the design, the Aura from Benling is a classic looking scooter with its design seems to be inspired from the likes of Piaggio Vespa range of scooters. The design has curves and no sharp edges are present which brings out its retro look. The headlight is round in shape and houses LED headlight and taillight that uses less battery power and looks premium in appeal. There are three colours available on the Aura – Glossy Blue, Matt Black and Matt Plum Purple.

A 2.5 kW BLDC hub-mounted electric motor runs the rear wheel of the Aura. With the motor mounted on the hub of the rear wheel, there is no belt-drive of chain-drive system available that means no moving parts. This increases the life of the scooter and it also has low maintenance cost. However, the reliability cannot be asserted for any recently launched brand. This electric scooter offers decent acceleration and offers a top speed of up to 65 kmph with single rider. The top speed reduces to around 60 kmph when a pillion is also riding along the rider.

The Aura derives its power from a large lithium-ion battery pack which has the capacity to hold a charge of 2.88 kWh. The company says that Aura can ride for up to 120 km in the Eco mode. In the performance mode, the scooter provides better performance with compromised riding range. It requires around 3 and a half hours to fully juice up the battery pack right at your home from a regular 15A socket. There is no fast-charging technology available on the Aura which is not a great deal because it has been targeted at people which live in tier 2 and tier 3 cities along with rural areas.

Benling Aura offers four ride modes to the riders. The top speed in each ride mode is 30 kmph, 43 kmph, 55 kmph and 65 kmph respectively. However, the riding range is inversely proportional to the top speeds in different ride modes. You can get anywhere around 120-140 km in the Eco mode and goes down till 60 km per charge in the Sport mode.

In term of features the Aura comes with an LED type instrument console which is not appealing to many tech-loving riders and feels out-dated and childish. However, features like glove box, USB charging port and parking mode are great addition for enhancing the convenience level of the riders.

You get to see telescopic forks fitted on the front wheel and a shock absorber with hydraulic damper is attached to the swing-arm. It offers adequate ride quality on the city roads but feels stiff over bad section of roads. The 12-inch alloy wheels at both ends enhances the ride quality of the scooter.

To slow down and stop the Benling Aura, it is equipped with Disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear with electronic assisted braking system for safer braking performance. Additional safety is provided by combined braking system which reduces the braking distance and increases the scooter stability under braking scenarios.

Pure EV EPluto 7G

On the ninth position, we have the Pure EV EPluto 7G. It is also a high-speed electric scooter for the masses thanks to its bigger battery and powerful motor. It is a smart looking compact scooter that carries retro design language. At present, the Pure EV EPluto is priced at Rs 89,278 ex-showroom New Delhi. With a powerful motor and long riding range, the Pluto 7G is eligible for FAME 2 subsidy but it is not clear where it gets the subsidy or not. For clear understanding, you have to get in touch with the nearest Pure EV dealership for more details regarding the same.

Pure EV EPluto 7G

Pure EV EPluto 7G is a good-looking scooter with design inspired from the likes of Vespa range of scooter but on a more compact form factor. It has round LED headlight cluster on the handlebar cowl and regular halogen lights comprised of halogen bulbs. The new electric scooter is offered in six colours – Ruby Red, Shadow Black, Electron Blue, Active Grey, Pearly White and Stripling Yellow.

Pure EV EPluto is propelled by a hub-mounted BLDC electric motor which is rated with max power of 2200 watts and continues power of 1500 watts. There is more than sufficient torque to do quick overtake sin the city traffic. If you keep the throttle open, the EPluto 7G will zoom past 60 kmph and attain a top speed of 65 kmph with only one rider. You can expect a lower top speed with a pillion on board.

Speaking about the battery pack, the EPluto 7G is uses a large 2.5 kWh lithium-ion battery module for powering the motor. Depending up to the riding behaviour of the rider, the 7G can deliver a range between 90 to 120 km in a single charge. Other elements that affect the range of an electric scooter are tyre pressure, head wind, road gradient and more.

It is a detachable battery pack and needs to be plugged-in for 4 to 5 hours from a regular home socket to fully juice it up. The portability of the battery unit helps the users to take it away and charge it from anywhere they like whether in home or in the office.

On the dashboard, the EPluto 7G comes equipped with a fully-digital meter panel providing only the relevant info to the rider. It is also equipped with a spacious single piece seat which is well-padded and offers ample space for two adult riders. Chrome plated rear view mirrors adds to the visual appeal.

Pure EV EPluto 7G is built on a steel tubular frame which is sturdy enough for daily commuting. It is suspended on telescopic forks at the front and twin spring-loaded shock absorbers with hydraulic dampers at the rear. This suspension is tuned towards a balanced side and offers comfortable ride on good section of city roads but same cannot be said about the bad patches of roads. The small 10-inch alloy wheels are a bad part of the scooter and they should be 12-inch units for better ride quality. There are tubeless tyres cannot take on the broken patches of roads without getting unsettled.

There is a disc brake on the front wheel and a rear drum brake does the job well. It features regenerative braking system that increases the riding range in the city traffic condition. The electronic assist braking system helps in keeping the scooter stable and reduced braking distance ultimately providing safety to the rider.

Ampere Magnus Pro

Finally, after the Pure EV EPluto 7G, we have, on the tenth position, the Ampere Magnus Pro. It is a good and affordable value to money electric scooter for the masses. Ampere is a venture by Greaves India to bring good quality high-speed electric scooters for the people residing in the tier 2 and tier 3 cities along with areas near the rural India.

Ampere Magnus Pro

At Rs 77,249 ex-showroom New Delhi, Ampere Magnus Pro is among the most affordable electric scooter available on sale in India. It is a high-speed scooter and therefore it is also eligible for government subsidy on the electric vehicles. The price mentioned by us is inclusive of the subsidy. A total of four colour options are available on the Magnus Pro – Bluish Pearl White, Metallic Red, Golden Yellow and Graphite Black.

We have placed it on the last position for its brand value which is not very well known among the people of India or the one this scooter is targeted at. Also, its battery capacity and range are also lower than the EPluto 7G electric scooter that has been positioned right above it.

Since Magnus Pro is an electric scooter of Chinese origins, the design can also be seen on other electric scooters with no brand or generic in nature. Where other electric scooters are coming up with LED headlight, the Magnus gets only a halogen unit along with rest of the lighting which is also halogen. LED lighting is a must in the electric scooters as halogen uses up a lot of battery power which actually affects the riding range.

The Magnus Pro is a practical and spacious scooter to have at your home. It provides large footboard and spacious seats for two people to ride with ease.

Powering the Ampere Magnus Pro is a hub-mounted BLDC motor with a peak power output of 1200 watts. All this power moves the Magnus Pro to a top speed of around 55 kmph with a single rider. The top speed decreases in the range of 52-53 kmph when two adults ride it.

The power is supplied by 60 Volts and 28 Ah lithium-ion battery pack with a total charge capacity of 1.8 kWh. A Vector Sine Wave controller system controls the power transmission to the motor according to the throttle inputs. This prolongs the life of critical components like motor and battery pack.

ARAI has tested a total range of 84 km on the Magnus Pro from a single charge. In the real world, you can ride the scooter for more than 75 km in a single charge which is great for daily city commuting. The battery pack is removable and allows the rider to take it to their home or office to charge it at their comfort zone. This leads to zero chances of scooter theft as without battery even thieves cannot ride the Magnus Pro. One can easily charge the battery at home and use the scooter for one or two days depending on the usage pattern. For charging, you need to plug in the battery pack to a regular 5A or 15A socket in your house and wait for 5 to 6 hours to completely charge the battery pack.

Ampere Magnus Pro has total hauling capacity of 150 kg which is good for two adult riders. The motor has enough torque that a single rider can climb an incline of 13 degrees whereas with a pillion, the max gradient come down to 8 degrees which is still acceptable for an electric scooter at this price range.

There is a blue back-lit fully digital meter console equipped on the dashboard providing all basic info such as speed, odometer, battery level indicator, left-over range, digital clock and more. It also has remote key-less entry, USB charging socket, large boot-space with LED light, anti-theft alarm and dual speed for rider convenience.

The Magnus Pro is suspended on hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a pair of spring-loaded shock absorbers with hydraulic dampers on the rear. This is a stiffer setup so as to keep the scooter under-body from scrapping on the taller speed-breakers. On the bad section of roads, you are bound to unsettle if riding at higher speeds as it only gets 10-inch wheels at both ends. There are no alloy wheels on the Magnus Pro as it only comes with steel rims wrapped with tubeless tyres for peace of mind while riding. We expect the company should offer alloy wheels as optional accessory for better appeal.

With Harmonised braking system which is nothing but a combined braking technology used by Ampere of its scooters, the Magnus Pro is brought down to a safe halt thanks to the drum brakes on both ends. Magnus Pro comes with 3-year warranty on the battery and the motor while one-year warranty is given to the whole scooter.
