How To Transfer A Car’s Ownership To The Buyer In Case Of Normal Sale?

Whether a four-wheeler or two-wheeler, transferring ownership of a vehicle is easier than you think. You can transfer a vehicle’s ownership by using offline and online methods. We have mentioned both of the methods in a step-by-step format below. Go through the methods and choose the one that suits you the most.

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership Offline In Hyderabad?

  • Step 1: First, the sellers must prepare a sale agreement. Here they must mention the insurance details of the vehicle being sold, Registration details of the vehicle, the status of the ownership transfer, the permanent address of the applicant (if required), the payment mode, and the selling conditions.
  • Step 2: The seller and buyer must fill out forms 20, 27, and 33. 
  • Step 3: Sign the RTO forms after filling them out. If you are doing an interstate ownership transfer, you need to obtain a NOC from a bank.

Note: To obtain NOC, the applicant/ the seller must fill out Form 28. 

  • Step 4: Next, submit the forms and the documents like PUC certificate, driving license (if required), insurance certificate, toll tax calculator (if required), driving license, address proof of the owner (PAN, Voter, or Aadhar card or any utility bill), a copy of Registration certificate, etc.

Note: Submit the filled-out RTO forms to the regional RTO office. You may have to fill out Form 16 to pay road tax.  

  • Step 5: If you are doing an interstate vehicle ownership transfer or the RTO of the seller and the buyer is different, apply for a clearance certificate.
  • Step 6: Now, pay the required amount to issue the new Registration certificate.
  • Step 7: Once you pay the amount, the RTO will provide you with an acknowledgment form. 
  • Step 8: Next, please submit the following documents we have mentioned here: a copy of the insurance certificate of the vehicle, a Passport-sized photograph of the applicant, address proof of the applicant, Forms 20, 27, 33, Form 28 (in case you have obtained NOC), PUC certificate, a copy of the registration certificate of the vehicle any valid address proof (PAN card, Voter card, Aadhar card or any utility bill), clearance certificate from the RTO (in case of interstate ownership transfer), etc. 
  • Step 9: After submitting the filled-out forms and the documents to the RTO, it will send another acknowledgment form to the applicant.
  • Step 10: After a month, the buyer will get the hard copy of the new R.C. book via Post or email.

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership Online In Hyderabad?

  • Step 1: First, go to the ParivahanSewa official website. 
  • Step 2: Click on the Online Services tab. 
  • Step 3: Next, you will get the Vehicle-Related Services option. Click on that. 
  • Step 4: Enter your vehicle’s registration number.
  • Step 5: Press Proceed.
  • Step 6: Next, click on the Misc (TO/CoA/HPA/HPS/HPT/DupRC).
  • Step 7: Now, provide your mobile number.
  • Step 8: Now, you will get a Generate OTP option. Click on that. 
  • Step 9: Now, enter the OTP the system provides you via SMS. 
  • Step 10: Next, click on the Show Details option.
  • Step 11: After selecting Show Details, select Application Selection. Tap on that.
  • Step 12: Next, you will get the option: Transfer of Ownership. Select that too. 
  • Step 13: Now, enter the details we have mentioned: a copy of a valid id (if required), insurance certificate of the vehicle, address proof (Aadhar, Voter, or PAN card)of the applicant, the vehicle’s fuel cost calculator  (if required), payment address, etc. 
  • Step 14: Next, click on the Payment option.
  • Step 15: Now, you will get soft copies of the forms and the payment receipt. Keep those saved for future use. 
  • Step 16: Now, print them out and sign them.
  • Step 17: Submit a copy of the vehicle’s Pollution Under Control certificate, registration certificate, vehicle insurance certificate, and  NOC (if required)to the RTO office. 
  • Step 18: Now, the RTO office will verify the documents. It takes a few days.
  • Step 19: When the RTO office completes verifying the documents, the buyer will get the new registration certificate via email or Post.

Note: You have to wait for a bit. The whole process takes around thirty working days.

Transfer Of Ownership On Death Of The Owner Of The Vehicle:

You can sell a vehicle after the death of the owner. How? Check out the step-by-step guide below:

  • Step 1: Firstly, the seller must apply for a succession certificate from the SDM or the Regional court. 
  • Step 2: If the owner had taken out a loan to buy the car and the loan continues, fill out Form 28. Form 28 is necessary for obtaining NOC if it is an interstate ownership transfer. You also need to fill out Forms 20, 27, and 33. 
  • Step 3: Now, provide the owner’s death certificate, the Registration certificate of the vehicle, address proof of the applicant, the vehicle’s Registration certificate, PAN card (if required), valid vehicle insurance certificate, and Pollution Under Control certificate to the regional RTO office.
  • Step 4: Now, pay the amount required to get the new R.C. Book. 
  • Step 5: Now, the RTO will verify the documents.
  • Step 6: When the RTO office finishes verifying the documents, it will send the new registration form to the new owner within thirty days.

Transfer Of Ownership Of Vehicle Purchased In A Public Auction:

If you have sold your vehicle in a public auction, then do not worry! You can still transfer its ownership. Check out the process mentioned below:

  • Step 1: Firstly, please fill out the RTO forms 20 and 27,33 and sign them.
  • Step 2: Then, submit a certified copy of the government’s order proving the permission for the auction, a copy of the insurance certificate of the vehicle, a copy of address proof like Aadhar, voter or PAN card, a copy of Registration Certificate, a certificate that confirms that the vehicle is sold, passport size photograph of the applicant, a copy of the birth certificate of the buyer (if required), valid utility bill (phone bill, gas electricity bill), Pollution Under Control Certificate and the buyer undertaking along with the filled out RTO forms to the RTO office. 
  • Step 3: Pay the required fees to the RTO office for the new Registration certificate.

Why Is A Vehicle Ownership Transfer Required In Hyderabad?

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership If the Vehicle Registered & Buyer’s RTO Is Same?

  • Step 1: First, the sellers must make a selling agreement by mentioning the selling condition of the vehicle, payment mode, the status of the ownership transfer, insurance details, and Registration details.
  • Step 2: After preparing the selling agreement, both the buyer and the seller must fill out Forms 20, 27, and 33 to apply for the R.C. transfer. 
  • Step 3: Submit the RTO forms you have filled out and the documents: address proof of the applicant, a copy of the insurance certificate of the vehicle, driving license, Registration Certificate, toll tax calculator  (if required), NCRB certificate (if required), and a copy of the Pollution Under Control certificate to the regional RTO.
  • Step 4: The RTO will send you an acknowledgment form to the applicant. 
  • Step 5: Now, pay the fees to the RTO office to get a new Registration certificate. 
  • Step 6: After the payment, the RTO will send another acknowledgement form. Please keep it safe.

  • Step 2: Now, Submit the NCRB certificate (if required), address proof of the applicant, passport size photographs of the applicant, valid id (if required), clearance Certificate (issued from the RTO), and a copy of the Registration Certificate of the vehicle, a copy of the Insurance Certificate, Pollution Under Control Certificate, PAN card, succession letter (if the owner has died), the road tax receipt (if required) along with the forms you have filled out RTO forms to the RTO office.

  • Step 3: Next, you will get the Vehicle-Related Services option. Press that.
  • Step 4: After choosing Vehicle Related Services, you will get a box. Here you need to provide your vehicle’s registration number and click Proceed.
  • Step 5: Click on the Misc (TO/CoA/HPA/HPS/HPT/DupRC).
  • Step 6: Enter your mobile number. 
  • Step 7: Next, click on the Generate OTP button to get the OTP.
  • Step 8: After getting the OTP via SMS, enter the OTP. If the autofill feature is activated, it will automatically get filled.
  • Step 9: Next, click on the Show Details option.
  • Step 10: Now, you will get an application Selection option. Click on that.
