However, the automaker has made a few wise styling tweaks to pull your eyes away from the scratchy low-rent plastic bits. It has (kind of) achieved this by applying a silver finish on the dashboard, door handles, center console, and the base of the steering wheel. These, along with the chrome finish on the HVAC & infotainment knobs, just about manage to break the sea of dark grey.

The dual-tone seats, whilst decent in terms of their comfort, will not be winning any awards for their lateral support. You will still notice them because Datsun has cleverly integrated an intriguing-looking designer motif onto them. The redi-Go’s interior is a fairly practical place to be, with more than enough storage spaces for your knick-knacks and dedicated spots to keep your mobile phone and bottles/cups. In terms of luggage-carrying capacity, the redi-Go’s 222-liter boot can be expanded to 514 liters if you fold away the rear seats.

For those seated in the back, headroom and legroom are decent, even though having three adults in there is not something we wouldn’t recommend. The large windows of the redi-Go mean that the cabin feels quite airy, though the design of the front seats restricts the forward view of the rear occupants.

Not only is the new model larger on the outside, but its wheelbase has also grown by 20mm. While it isn’t exactly a tall boy, the new Alto K10 is noticeably taller than its predecessor. The overall styling has also gone a major update, with the front fascia looking sportier and more youthful.

The sweptback headlamps may not be the suavest unit ever, but the expansive honeycomb main grille adds to the car’s overall stance. In fact, the honeycomb design is carried over to the wheel covers found on the petite 13-inch wheels. The car remains a simplistic one with almost no extraordinary flair. However, the overall footprint of the Alto K10 has turned out to be substantial enough, though the oversized wheel arches look out of place.

The interior of the new Alto K10 is not going to change your mind if you thought it will be upmarket and quality-led in its feel. While there’s a lot of uninspiring grey trim in the K10’s cabin, these are supplemented by shinier bits around the AC vents, infotainment screen, steering wheel & door handles.

The dual-tone seats do liven up the interior a bit as well, whilst the greenhouse area is big enough to not cause visibility issues. Because the new model sits higher off the ground, ingress and egress have become easier, while most passengers will be happy with the amount of headroom on board. The seats are alright, but you might want to stretch out once in a while on long road trips.

Practicality has been boosted now thanks to the larger 214-liter boot and handy cupholders in front of the gear lever. The Go is a bigger car than the Alto K10, as it boasts more length, width and wheelbase. This is clearly evident when you view it from the outside. For those that want a pocket-friendly hatchback but diverge from cars with a smaller footprint, then Datsun has you covered.

On the styling front, the Go has a slightly smaller main grille than the redi-Go. Despite that, it still gets a shiny metallic accent around the grille and a similar honeycomb pattern in between. The headlamps might be large in size and slightly angular in design, but they aren’t going to invoke any particular emotion in you. The front bumper is better-styled, helped by some sharp contours and vertical LED DRLs.

The side profile of the Datsun Go is pretty tame, with the main saving grace being a stylized rear-haunch design and 14-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Since the car sits quite high, getting in and out of the Go will be easy for most people. The driving position is actually quite nice, especially with the easy-to-read dials and the convenient positioning of the gear shifter. Being a Datsun, you will not find any premium materials in this cabin, which is to be expected considering its pricing. However, the automaker has gone to the lengths of inserting some piano black and silver finish to make the interior feel less cheap, though the fake carbon-fiber inserts just feel very tacky.

Irrespective, the torque figure remains unchanged at 104Nm.

The seats of the Celerio offer good comfort, but the rear bench is only really good for two adults.

The hatchback has a cargo space that’s capable of carrying up to 313 liters of luggage, with bottle holders in each of the door bins, and a couple more cubbies between the front seats. There are a few silver bits dotted around the cabin, though the central AC-vent design looks a bit busy too. While the large speedometer looks nice, the accompanying digital MID is a bit of an information overload.
