How To Transfer A Car’s Ownership To The Buyer In Case Of Normal Sale?

If you buy an electric car or another car, selling the old one is the only practical thing to do. Transferring a car’s ownership can be done by following both online and offline processes.

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership Offline In Gurgaon?

To transfer a vehicle’s ownership offline, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Step 1: Firstly, the seller has to prepare the sale agreement. Here, the seller has to mention the status of the ownership transfer, the payment mode, the insurance details, the registration certificate, and the selling conditions.
  • Step 2: Once the seller makes the selling agreement, both the seller and the buyer fill up forms 29 and 30 from the RTO. Remember, You need to sign two copies of Form 29 and one copy of Form 30.

Note: If the car is under hypothecation, the seller can apply for a No Objection Certificate from the bank.

  • Step 3: Now, submit the necessary documents to the RTO. The documents you need to submit to the RTO are insurance certificates, toll tax calculator, Pollution Under Control certificate, Registration certificate, the owner’s permanent address proof, etc. But you do not have to submit the car’s invoice.
  • Step 4: The buyer needs to apply for a clearance certificate from the RTO.

Note: Applying for the clearance certificate differs for different states.  

  • Step 5: The buyers must submit all the necessary documents to the RTO office.
  • Step 6: After the submission, the RTO will provide the buyers with an acknowledgment form.
  • Step 7: After verifying the submitted documents, the RTO office will email the buyer a clearance certificate.
  • Step 8: After receiving the clearance certificate from the RTO, the buyer will need to pay for the ownership transfer certificate to the RTO.
  • Step 9: Next, the buyer will have to pay for the following documents: insurance certificate, registration certificate, PAN card, PUC certificate, clearance certificate, address proof, form 30, Passport-sized photograph, self-addressed envelope attached with stamps, two copies of form 29, etc.
  • Step 10: After submitting the documents, the RTO office will send another acknowledgment form to the buyer.
  • Step 11: Then the buyer will receive the new registration certificate via email, and that is it. By following these steps, you can transfer the vehicle ownership to the buyer offline.

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership Online In Gurgaon?

Follow the steps mentioned below to transfer a vehicle’s ownership online. But you still have to follow some offline steps too. 

  • Step 1: Firstly, open the ParivahanSewa website on your device. 
  • Step 2: Now, click on the Online Services tab. 
  • Step 3: Once you click on Online Services, you will get an option called Vehicle Related Services. Click on that. 
  • Step 4: Now, on the provided box, enter your car’s registration number. This is the most important step for RC transfer.
  • Step 5: Now, click on Proceed.
  • Step 6: Click on the Misc (TO/CoA/HPA/HPS/HPT/DupRC).
  • Step 7: The system will provide you with another box. Provide your mobile number here.
  • Step 8: Once you enter the mobile number in the provided box, you will get a Generate OTP button. Click on that.
  • Step 9: Now, once you get the OTP via SMS, enter the OTP. 
  • Step 10: Once you enter the OTP, click on Show Details.
  • Step 11: Here, you will get an option called Application Selection. Click on that option, and now you will get another option named Transfer of Ownership. Select that. 
  • Step 12: In the Transfer of Ownership box, enter the details about the vehicle’s new owner. Here you have to provide details like the current address of the new owner, payment address, fuel cost calculator(if required), insurance certificate, etc. 
  • Step 13: Now, click on the Payment option to pay the fee.
  • Step 14: Once you provide the fee, the system will generate Forms 29 and 30 and two payment receipts.  
  • Step 15: Take a printout of all of them. 
  • Step 16: The seller and the buyer have to sign the forms.
  • Step 17: After completing all these, submit the original registration certificate, a copy of the insurance certificate, car loan calculator (if any), Pollution Under Control certificate, etc., to the RTO office. You can go to the RTO office or email the documents. That is it.
  • Step 18: Once the RTO office verifies the documents, the buyer will get the vehicle’s new registration certificate via email.

Transfer Of Ownership On Death Of The Owner Of The Vehicle:

If the previous owner of a vehicle dies, You can still sell the car to a buyer. The only difference is that you have to submit a few more documents than you usually do. Let’s find out how you can transfer a vehicle’s ownership using RTO forms.

  • Step 1: Firstly, the car’s heir needs to prove that the car belongs to the person after the owner’s death. You will need a succession certificate from the SDM or the Regional court.
  • Step 2: Now, fill the Forms 30 and 31 if the previous owner has taken a loan to buy the car.
